Power Book 2: Star confirms show’s return in December: ‘It’s all done’

POWER fans were in uproar at the start of October when a new episode of Book 2: Ghost failed to surface. Michael Rainey Jr. has just reassured the show’s followers Tariq’s story will continue soon.

The latest episode of Power Book II: Ghost aired on October 4, but hasn’t returned for some weeks since. Thanks to the coronavirus, production on Starz’ hit drama was shut down earlier this year, but Tariq star Michael Rainey Jr. has confirmed the season will continue this December.

Michael Rainey Jr. has taken to Twitter to confirm new episodes of the Power follow-up will return in December. Power Book II: Ghost revived the series back in September after Tariq (played by Rainey Jr.) shot his own father, James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick).

Five episodes of the ten-part series have aired so far, as Tariq made his first steps as a college freshman whilst also juggling a risky partnership with new drug runner, Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige). After Tariq landed himself in hot water by drunkenly confessing his crime on tape, viewers watching along were furious when the series failed to continue the following week.

Filming had previously shut down at the start of the year after most TV productions were hit by severe COVID restrictions and forced to press pause. Thankfully, Starz confirmed filming has now been able to resume, with the network implying they were aiming for a December release date for the second half of the new series.

Now, this past Sunday night, Michael Rainey Jr. took to his personal Twitter page to confirm the speculation. He posted: “Today is Sunday and there’s no new episodes of #PowerBook2 #GHOST. Because of the pandemic we had to stop filming. “Good news is we went back to work and now it’s all done. We’ll be back in December on #STARZ & #starzplay Thanks for your patience.”

Not only will the series be back in just under a couple of months, the network also confirmed a second season of Book II is also in the works. Although the franchise was hit hard by the pandemic’s onslaught of delays and complications, Book II is still just the first of several spin-offs poised to continue the legacy of Power.

Currently, there is no specific release date in November for the second half of Book II. However, perceptive viewers have tipped the season’s return for December 6, with the series finale set to ring in the start of 2021.

Following Rainey Jr.’s exciting news, Power fans took to the comments to celebrate Tariq’s upcoming return to screens. One fan replied: “Awesome! Can’t wait to see your talent back on TV. Television has been dry without #powerbook2.” And another agreed: “OMG, I miss the show so much!! December can’t come fast enough.”

Not all responses were positive, though, as some devoted Power fans aren’t convinced the spin-off contains the show’s original magic. A third viewer commented: “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Haven’t been able to get into Book II, I mean invested the same way I was with Power.

Though they conceded the series is still an essential watch and added: “It’s recording and will continue to be on my DVR list, though.” With another five episodes left to clean up Tariq’s mess from the first half of season one, Power fans are primed for even more devastating twists and turns when Book II returns.

Power Book II: Ghost will continue with ‘Good vs. Evil’ in December on Starz and Starzplay.
