POWER is slowly expanding its universe with 4 spin-off series. But will these dramas be available on Netflix?
Power may have come to an end but it is being resurrected with new spin-off series which will focus on some of the show’s most talked-about characters. The release of the Starz dramas has been delayed because of the pandemic. However, the first of the four shows is now halfway through its first season.
Power season six finished with the death of James “Ghost” St Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick). While this could have been the end, creators Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson instead decided to take it to the next level.
The pair have been working on four spin-off shows entitled Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Power Book IV: Force, and Power Book V: Influence.
Earlier this year, Starz’s president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said: “In television history, only a select few shows have inspired four consecutive series extensions, launched into active production and development at the same time.
“These new and exciting chapters will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters while featuring a growing ensemble of complex, distinct characters along with the high-octane drama that set Power in a class of its own.”
Power Book II started last month which focuses on Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) and his mum Tasha (Naturi Naughton) who remains in prison after taking the blame for Ghost’s murder.
The next spin-off in the pipeline after this is Power Book III which will be a prequel about Kanan Stark’s (Curtis Jackson) childhood. This is expected to come out in early 2021, once Power Book II has come to an end.
After this will be Power Book IV: Force which delves into what Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) gets up to after leaving New York for Los Angeles. Tommy’s own spin-off show won’t air until late 2021 or possibly early 2022.
The final spin-off series will be Power Book V: Influence which is going to be about Rashad Tate’s rise to political power as he continues to work towards becoming Governor. This will be the last of the Power series to be released and so may come out around sometime in 2022.
The original series of Power was available to watch on Starz, UK streaming service Starzplay as well as Netflix. All six series of Power are still ready to watch on Netflix but you must be a subscriber to get access.
Subscription plans start at £5.99 per month and you can cancel your plan at any time. However, while Power is on the streaming service, none of the spin-off shows are.
After new episodes of Power were shown on Starz, they were also dropped on Netflix a day later. So it was assumed this would be the same for the four new series.
Unfortunately, Power Book II which is now in the middle of its first season is not on Netflix. There haven’t been any announcements about introducing Power Book II or any of the other spin-off shows to Netflix either.
This could change in the future but for now, at least, Netflix customers will not be able to watch the new series through the service.
