Zimbabwe government shuts down due to COVID-19

The Government of Zimbabwe has announced an almost complete shutdown of all its departments following a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country in recent weeks.

Covid-19 has so far claimed the lives of three ministers.

All ministries except the Ministry of Health and Child Care have been ordered to operate at the barest minimum.

The announcement was made by Secretary for Information Nick Mangwana:

"From tomorrow 21 January 2021 to 3 February 2021, all Ministries, Govt Departments and Agencies (except for @MoHCCZim) will be operating with only 10% of its staff. Those who can work from home will be doing that. This is likely to affect the service the public receives."
