The Australian city has been chosen as the venue for the 2032 Olympic Games at the International Olympic Committee session held this Wednesday in Tokyo.
Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028… and the 2032 Olympic Games already have their official headquarters. They will go to Oceania, to Australia. Specifically Brisbane, a city of more than two million inhabitants located in the east of the country. The decision was confirmed at the Assembly of the International Olympic Committee held this Wednesday in Tokyo.
After the revision of the regulations in 2019, it is the first time that the election system of the Olympic site is not done with the presentation of candidatures and subsequent voting.
The appointment has been made privately with direct negotiation between the IOC and the candidate city , and when an agreement is reached, the city that will host the Games is announced. This time they go to Oceania and Australia for the third time, as happened in Sydney 2000 and Melbourne 1956.
In principle, the appointment would be held from July 23 to August 8 and the Paralympics would be from August 24 to September 5.
John Coates, President of the Australian Olympic Committee and Vice President of the IOC expressed his happiness: “This is a very proud day for Australia, make no mistake. I thank the members of the IOC for their confidence. Brisbane 2032 is genuinely committed to the ideals of the Olympic movement. I make this commitment to the athletes of the world: we will provide them with an unforgettable experience.

The Australian Government estimates that the appointment will leave an economic return. of more than 10,000 million euros for the area and the city, which celebrated the election with fireworks.
Only candidate city in the final phase
With the new election system, it is unknown if on this occasion there were other cities interested in hosting the Games, although it is unofficially speculated that there were offers from India, Qatar, Indonesia and Germany. Not much else has emerged on the matter, only that Brisbane was the only contender as of February 11 in the final selection phase.
“This is the first Olympic city to benefit from the new flexible approach to choosing Olympic hosts,” said Thomas Bach after showing the highly predictable ‘Brisbane 2032’ ballot this time: “The vision of this bid fits into regional and national strategies to develop the area and the country. “
And is the future of the Olympic Games assured? Kristin Kloster Aasen, president of the Commission of future hosts of the IOC, affirms that yes: “A group of possible candidate cities for the future Games of 2036 and 2040 is assured”. For now, what can be said is that in 11 years, 4,021 days, there will be an Olympic event: Brisbane 2032.
